Cabin Comfort & Hardware (V16–V17)
Category 6 — the onboard product for the cabin you're booking: the seat and the catering.
How the category aggregates
V16×0.65 + V17×0.35 when both resolve; whichever one resolves alone carries the category. V16 is currently disabled and drops, so today this category is the catering score. When the curated table has no row for the carrier, cabin and route length either, the whole category drops for that itinerary and its weight redistributes across the others — nothing is scored on a placeholder.
Measures — the seat product for the booked cabin — pitch, width, recline, type. Currently disabled, and drops rather than contributing anything.
Disabled 2026-08-04 (V16_DISABLED)
Explicit product decision, disabled alongside V17 and V18. Most real seats were already scoring off the generic estimated-tier fallback rather than a confirmed tier — real seat-hardware coverage (AeroLopa, manufacturer specs) is only partially wired in. The tier ladder and modifiers below are intact for re-enabling; they just aren't contributing to any score right now.
Amended 2026-08-27, when V17 was switched back on: a disabled V16 now drops instead of returning a neutral 50. Left at 50 it would have made 65% of this category's live score a fixed number, holding the real catering signal inside a 32.5–67.5 band.
clamp(tier + dimensionModifier + featureBonus, 0, 100) on the longest segment tier is cabin-scoped (e.g. business 100/85/70/50/30); dimension modifier ±15; premium bonuses for direct-aisle / suite-door / long bed
Data & accuracy — a cabin-scoped tier anchor (inferV16Tier) adjusted by seat dimensions and premium features, scored on the longest segment. Confidence is flagged manufacturer-spec / airline-configured / verified / estimated — verified only from explicit enrichment input. Low-cost economy is detected from an LCC signal or sub-floor dimensions.
Gotchas — disabled; drops regardless of cabin or seat dimensions, so nothing here reaches a score today.
Measures — catering quality for your cabin and route length, averaged across the segments we have data for.
Re-enabled 2026-08-27
V17 was switched off on 2026-08-04 alongside V16 and V18. That call was the odd one out among the launch disables: it was never a data gap. The curated catering reference table below is real — the same dataset the Dining card on a result reads from — and it was actively separating itineraries right up to the moment it was switched off.
Switching it back on gives Cabin Comfort & Hardware real weight again, which renormalizes every other category's share. Scores across the board moved as a result.
multi_course 100 · hot_meal 90 · cold_meal 70 · buy_on_board 50 · snack 45 · beverage_only 25 · none 0 per segment × cabin × duration tier (short <2h / mid 2–6h / long 6h+), averaged
Data & accuracy — the level comes from an explicit per-leg field → a per-option matrix → a curated 168-airline reference table (getCateringReferenceEntry, carrier × cabin × durationTier) sourced from each carrier's official dining pages — a research→verify sweep across the full flight-search airline universe. Covers full-service flag carriers, LCCs scored buy-on-board, single-cabin carriers scored beverage-only, and a few ULCCs (e.g. Avelo, parts of Widerøe) that offer no onboard food or drink at all, scored none. Some carriers only have a subset of cabins covered (e.g. KLM: Business only) — uncovered cabins/tiers drop rather than guess. Segments with no level or unavailable confidence are excluded (not scored 0); verified/estimated segments are averaged.
Gotchas — with V16 disabled, V17 is the whole category — a carrier, cabin and route length the curated table doesn't cover drops Category 6 entirely for that itinerary rather than scoring it neutral.
